The online resource is focused on helping users figure out what types of technical skills are required for IT jobs, and provides resources to help acquire these skills. The Web site offers access to several Microsoft online training programs, from very basic (e.g., “How to use the Internet”) to much more advanced (e.g., “Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows XP Professional”).

Internships Help Prepare Future Online Teachers

As virtual schooling continues to surge in popularity, there is a growing need for new K-12 teachers who understand how to teach in an online environment successfully. To help meet this need, the Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is teaming up with area colleges to pair teachers-in-training with its online instructors in a first-of-its-kind internship program.

When University of Central Florida junior Nicole Nissim got
stumped in trigonometry, she checked out what was showing on YouTube.

Nissim typically scours the video-sharing Web site for clips of
bands and comedy skits. But this time she wasn’t there to procrastinate
on her homework. It turned out YouTube was also full of math videos.

Do Instructional Design Training Programs in India Need a Revamp?

I have been looking at some of the training programs that are being offered for aspiring Instructional Designers (ID) in India. I looked at these courses from the perspective of:

  • An aspiring Instructional Designer who has no clue about Instructional Designing and wants to quickly gain instructional designing skills
  • An Instructional Designer who has started with Instructional Designing at work, but has lots of queries and needs lots of inputs to improve his/her instructional designing skill.

St George’s Hospital paramedics train in Second Life - the Guardian

Paramedic students at St George’s Hospital have been using virtual technology to help prepare them for the real life situations they could face when they qualify. The Second Life program is a 3D virtual world where characters can create their own scenarios. The paramedic then arrives on the scene and must assess the situation.
